So Friday I was called by a temp agency about a temp-to-hire position they think I would be great for. I should be so excited right now because of it, however I’m not really that excited because there are a few complications… (more…)
So yesterday I went and filled out an application at a gas station up the road that is hiring, but I’m not sure exactly how well it went. Looking at the interaction afterwords I felt it went well, but my gut says otherwise.
He said he was doing interviews today, so I’m sitting here staring at my phone…. waiting. (more…)
So the IT job I was really hoping for at WMU fell through, the small job I was doing that was paying my rent is starting to get more and more slow, and my mom is yelling at me for wanting a job and not staying on SSI because of Aspergers Syndrome. (more…)
These are unemployment rates, and underemployment rates of people on the autism spectrum given at a recent conference. The rates are quite startling if you ask me. (more…)
So yesterday afternoon I recieved a call from an IT placement firm about a job thats less than a mile from my house. Its a large university and I would be working on answering the questions of professors and helping with low end support such as projectors and small networking issues. As of right now its a temporary job, but (more…)
So I have a temp job right now with a company that builds playgrounds for elementary schools - but I’m somewhat considered about the lack of safety that is exercised in the workplace. Some of these things are very clearly dangerous and I don’t know how to bring it up to the supervisor who encourages this unsafe practice. As many people know being autistic makes it difficult to talk to people about things that concern you so I’m thinking (more…)
I have decided to start a small series on ways that people with Autism and Aspergers can earn money at home as I realize sometiems the usual job market is very difficult. Every idea I put fourth is something I have actually attempted and made some very good money on.
People with autism and or Aspergers tend to be very analytical, and some have strenghts in research and using the computer. If this describes you, or someone you know with Autism or Aspergers that is currently struggling to find a job I think this is a great idea to earn money from home. (more…)
My last job was in a factory bottling pharmaceutical medication. I often hear how people claim that working someone on the Autism Spectrum working in a factory is not possible so I thought I would talk about my experience. (more…)
I was juts laid off, I live in Michigan - the state right now that has the highest unemployment rate, and to top it off I have Aspergers Syndrome - which is a form of Autism. So right now the adds of finding gainful employment are stacked against me. I however refuse to sit back and collect SSI, because in my heart I believe I can be a productive member of society.
So you may ask - why I have created this blog. As many people know, finding a job when you have any sort of disability is not the easiest thing in the world. There are many laws that are meant to protect you, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act - but those laws are also very difficult if not impossible to enforce.
I thought writing about my exerperience on the hunt for a job with someone on the Autism Spectrum would show thats its not impossible to find a job if you really try - even in this awful economy right now.
